Modern computer games come in a variety of different genres. All the way from two-dimensional puzzles to vast open worlds with immersive storylines. Although games can appear to be very different, they are for the most part built upon the same design principles. These are the things that make games fun and exciting, and balances challenges against rewards, as well as defining how a player interacts with the game world.

In Unreal Game Design, we utilise the power of the Unreal Engine; an engine used by countless popular indie and AAA games. It provides perfect starting point for aspiring game designers, principally because it’s packed full of tools to quickly get anyone started making a game. The course primarily targets 3D game design (and most of what is taught can be applied to 2D games as well). We teach the fundamentals of using the Unreal Engine to design and create game scenarios, as well as Unreal's powerful visual scripting language; Blueprints. We use this to get the power of coding without the complexity of programming syntax and it allows us to create some fantastic custom behaviour to our game mechanics. It includes learning some of the most essential concepts of any programming language, such as variables, branching and looping. All this enables us to openly explore the world of game design using practical exercises and projects.

Daytime camps are for 5 days, Monday to Friday (visit daily), and they combine an immersive learning environment and exciting leisure activities and are sure to ignite young imaginations.
