Computer science and programming are rapidly being picked up in schools to try and make students ready for a future filled with tech, and starting with the right programming language is crucial. One of the more popular starting points, and one that’s popular with academic institutions, is Python. With its minimalistic yet descriptive syntax, Python is great for any newcomer into the ways of the coding.

The week starts with a brief introduction into the state of computer science and technology, it then moves on swiftly to giving students some practical experience with Python. The first few topics of data, variables and user input will gently ease students into coding, with plenty of exercises to help build their confidence. We then move on to two of the core constructs of coding: branching and iteration, covering the techniques used to achieve these constructs, including if-statements and while-loops. Finally, we’ll look at file saving and loading, which is easier to achieve in Python than it is in other programming languages.
