2024 August Summer Camps for Kids – Coding, Tech, & Gaming

You might think it’s a little early to start planning the 2024 summer holidays for your kids, but if you are stuck for ideas and like to get started early, then we’d recommend thinking about August summer camps, even though they are a little way off at the moment – either at a location in or near London, or online.

With that in mind, we decided to put together a list of our most popular August summer camps for 2024, which can either be taken virtually or at one of our locations.

If your kids haven’t attended a FunTech summer camp before, here’s what to expect, followed by the August tech and coding camps you can choose from.

  • Designed for girls and boys aged 7 to 16.
  • Camps run through July and August in a virtual or physical classroom.
  • Kids attend daily, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
  • Ofsted registered.
  • Childcare vouchers accepted.
  • Structured (and fun) learning.
  • Over 21 years of experience.

The August summer camps include subjects such as video game design, coding, artificial intelligence, or popular games such as Minecraft and Roblox.

August coding and tech camps in London or Online

Our August summer camps run in multiple locations across and near London, including Barbican, Maidenhead, Northwood, Richmond, and Wimbledon.

Here’s just a short selection of what’s possible. You can view all our summer tech camps on our holiday camps page.

1. Minecraft Mod Developer (ages 7 to 10)

This creative and fun Minecraft August holiday club is packed full of fun learning activities, experimentation, problem solving and creativity.

Once your child has mastered the secrets of Minecraft such as brewing potions and conquering the Nether – they will learn how to Mod a variety of different items that will take their Minecraft skills way beyond the basics.

2. Indie Game Coder (ages 9 to 13)

This August club is more focussed on app development but is also a great introduction to game design. We use hands-on exercises and projects to teach your child the skills and techniques required to design and build an interactive game.

They’ll get an introduction to core coding concepts and learn how to export and publish their game on the web.

3. Roblox Designer (ages 7 to 10)

This August holiday club helps your child build an Obby adventure game, by learning to sculpt terrains, create GUI elements and much more.

Their game will be filled with obstacles, puzzles, and challenges, that will develop their creative and technical skills which can be enjoyed with family and friends.

4. Lego Robotics Virtual Bots (ages 7 to 10)

During the school holidays your child could design, build, and code a Virtual Lego Robot with FunTech’s virtual lessons.

Whilst developing logical and critical thinking skills, your child will learn to implement fundamental coding constructs, such as variables, conditional statements, loops and so much more.

5. A.I. Machine Learning (ages 12 to 16)

At this August summer camp, your child will learn to develop a Chatbot, which simulates human-like conversations, using conditional logic, neural networks, natural language and so much more – branching into one of the most exciting and cutting-edge areas of technology.

Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI), that simulates human learning patterns to learn, grow, update, and develop itself by continually assessing data and identifying patterns based on past outcomes.

6. Scratch Coder (ages 7 to 10)

Whilst the theory and logic of coding has remained the same for decades, methods have evolved significantly. Our Scratch August holiday club is ideal for kids new to coding.

Scratch is a fantastic visual-based coding editor which enables children to create fun animations, interactive stories, games, sounds and much more! It’s the perfect introduction to coding and computational thinking that makes coding for kids seriously fun!

7. Minecraft Redstone Engineer (ages 9 to 12)

On this virtual holiday club, your child will start their online lessons using Redstone energy to create the different logic gates. They will then learn how these logic gates can be combined to create different circuits and complex electronic items such as calculators, elevators and more.

They’ll use all the skills they learn to design and build an amazing adventure course full of challenges, surprises and puzzles to navigate through!

8. Roblox Game Developer (ages 9 to 12)

During the August school holidays we will take the popular gaming platform Roblox to teach digital skills and programming concepts to children in this popular virtual holiday club.

Whether your kid is new to Roblox or a regular gamer, they will learn how to create an obstacle course and kart racing game during a fun week of experimentation, creativity and real-world physics.

10. Python Coder (ages 10 to 16)

This is one of the best clubs for kids a little older who want to learn more advanced coding techniques.

With Python Coder, your child will be taught how to code and then implement what they have learned through fun, practical exercises and projects resulting in their ability to create Python projects with confidence.

11. 3D Game Design Developer (ages 10 to 14)

From the fundamentals of game design to essential 3D game programming concepts, your child will learn the skills required to develop a seriously impressive multi-platform video game.

This fun course is packed full of structured learning, practical exercises and projects guaranteed to capture the imagination and unleash creativity.

12. Java Coder (ages 11 to 16)

Our fast-paced school holiday Java lessons teach your child how to code, edit and problem-solve in a structured and methodical manner from the ground up.

Once you child has mastered the core coding constructs, we present them with oodles of fun practical exercises and projects for variety of different scenarios.

Our virtual August summer camps in 2024

If you do decide to choose a virtual course, then the learning is still live with expert tutors. They will teach and guide your child through the course content, with real-time feedback there and then. The FunTech tutors are live and always on hand to help and analyse your child’s progress.

Kids are able to ask questions, hear the answers, and more:

  • Instant audio and text communication
  • Ability to chat with the class or privately to a tutor
  • Kids can follow tutors through the course and see practical demonstrations
  • Screen sharing and remote access available
  • A maximum of 12 students per classroom for focussed lessons
  • Immediate and intuitive feedback from tutors.
  • With classes being very small it means our tutors can give your child the attention needed to truly learn how to code and master other technical disciplines.

The FunTech tutors are able to see your child’s screen constantly so can guide and step in at any point. It also means they can focus on helping your child if they start to get distracted, or complete tasks before their classmates.

It’s what sets our virtual August summer camps and classes apart from so many others – it’s real time, with real tutors, and real classmates. You can’t learn in a better environment than that.
