Home Schooling Technology Courses & Resources for Kids
The BBC recently released some interesting statistics on home schooling. They found that the number of kids being taught at home had risen by 40% over a three-year period of 2014 to 2017.
With the recent Coronavirus pandemic, those statistics will have certainly almost reached 100% temporarily.
It’s also likely that the number of kids being home schooled will remain higher than previous years once the school shutdown period is over – there are bound to be some parents who decide to keep home schooling when restrictions lift.
However, there are some STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) subjects that some parents will need support with. Technology moves extremely fast, and computing in particular shows rapid change which can be hard to keep up with.
That’s why we wanted to draw your attention to our range of technology courses for kids, all of which can be completed online and virtually. They will help you fill a potential gap in your child’s home schooling education.
Our home-schooling technology courses
We’ve been in the education business since the 1990s, teaching thousands of children how to use technology in a fun, engaging, and safe way.
Then 12 years ago we launched our first ever online learning platform, which has evolved into the popular FunTech Virtual Lab that parents know and love today.
All of home-schooling tech and computing courses are up to date, current, and run by highly qualified virtual tutors. Here’s what sets us apart from other online providers:
- We provide real live lessons in real time with live tutors.
- Our live tutors are all DBS checked and we are Ofsted-registered.
- Our learning platform comes with instant audio and text communication.
- We let students take advantage of screen sharing and remote access.
- Our classes sizes are deliberately small.
You can find out more about how it works, with these points expanded upon in this guide to our virtual lessons.
So, what can we offer exactly?
What your child can learn from home
The range of FunTech home schooling tech courses include topics such as:

This online coding course has proved to be one of our most popular yet. Your child’s learning adventure starts with our online tutors giving them access to some amazing secrets in the Minecraft platform.
This tech course lets kids get ahead with coding using the popular Scratch platform. The online classes start off with an introduction to Scratch’s visual coding environment, learning about the key areas of branching and iteration plus variables and game logic.
These home-schooling programming lessons start off with your child setting up a project with Roblox Studio. They will then be virtually tasked in designing an obstacle course filled with moving platforms, explosive hazards, and more!
Your child will be taken on a fascinating journey through the fundamentals of electronics. They’ll start with the simple concept of binary, where any two states (e.g. up and down, or on and off) can be represented by a 0 or 1.
This online video game design course helps kids with the game design process from the ground up. Your child will begin by understanding the principles of a successful indie game, such as user experience, display area, and more.
For slightly older kids, this online coding courses focuses on 3D game design. Your child will learn how to use visual scripting tools, letting them to embrace the power of programming without the complexity of coding syntax.
This kids’ home-schooling coding class is all about the popular Python programming language. Your child will start off being taught coding logic before focussing more on Python and how to use it.
This coding class starts off with an introduction to core programming constructs including object-orientation programming. This is where segments of code are written as blueprints and used repeatedly, meaning any updates will only need to be edited at the blueprint level. It’s a methodology that creates efficient code and is used throughout the industry.
Our kids’ Java coding classes begin with a theoretical examination of coding logic. Using flowcharts and pseudo code, you child will learn the best practise of being a good coder: understand the problem, create a solution, then write programming code. This is followed by an orientation to Eclipse (a Java Independent Development Environment).
